Overview

Management structure:

The Ark Nursery have a Manager and a Floor Manager, who is based in the Preschool Room. Both Manager and Floor Manager are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council. The current Manager holds an SVQ 4 qualification in Children’s Care, Learning and Development and is currently working towards a Post-graduate Diploma in Childhood Practice at Dundee University. Our floor manager is based in the Preschool room, and has many years of experience at the Ark. Both Manager and Floor Manager are Child Protection Officers for the setting.

The Ark Nursery is a registered charity, and has a Board of Directors. They meet regularly and several of the Directors support the running of the nursery in areas such as health and safety, Scottish Social Services Council registration, recruitment and PVG.

Practitioners and Support Workers:

The Ark Nursery employs an enthusiastic team of childcare practitioners. The majority of our staff are fully qualified as Practitioners. They hold qualifications that are recognised for practitioner registration with the Scottish Social Services Council. Some of our staff are Support Workers, and are currently undergoing training to become qualified as Practitioners. The common qualifications that our staff hold are SVQ 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, and HNC in Early Education and Childcare. Our current support workers are working towards the new SVQ 3 qualification, SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People).

Staff all undergo ongoing training and development courses, through internal staff meetings and external providers. All our staff receive Child Protection training and First Aid training. We work closely with other professionals to support children’s learning and development. We seek support from Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language and Bilingual services where necessary.

Each room has a senior practitioner, who oversees the running of the room, and supports their team. They regularly communicate with management and look at improvements of the nursery.

Other staff:

Cook: In the kitchen, our full-time cook Eileen provides healthy and nutritious meals and snacks for the children.

Music teacher: One day per week children have access to a visiting music teacher, who does singing with accompanied keyboard.

Volunteers and Student Placements: We occasionally are fortunate enough to have volunteers and student placements come in and support us. Student placements are normally from Dundee and Angus College and are undergoing a relevant childcare qualification.

All staff undergo PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) checks, and are not allowed to work with the children until these checks have come through. These checks are renewed every 3 years for all staff.
